(Silver Spring, Md.) – Discovery Channel earned double-digit, year-over-year ratings increases in households, across key demos and among total viewers in August 2006.

Compared to primetime in August 2005, Discovery Channel earned a 25% increase in household ratings and delivered an average primetime audience of 1,217,000 P2+, representing a 31% increase. Across the target demos, the channel gained 20% in P25-54, 14% in M25-54 and 25% in W25-54 ratings.  These significant increases were bolstered in part by the Sunday, August 27, premiere of SURVIVING KATRINA, which garnered a 1.1 household rating.  The August ratings increases also reflect growth in key brand-defining series and demonstrate the breadth of programming genres on the network. Among P25-54, the following key series earned double or triple-digit ratings increases: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW (Wednesday at 8 PM) +25%; MYTHBUSTERS (Wednesday at 9 PM) +43%; MYTHBUSTERS (Wednesday at 10 PM) +100%; A HAUNTING (Thursday at 8 PM) +33%; A HAUNTING (Thursday at 9 PM) +100%; MOST EVIL (Thursday at 10 PM) +50%; SURVIVORMAN (Friday at 10 PM) +50%; and DIRTY JOBS (Tuesday at 9 PM and Friday at 9 PM) +20%.

The 19th annual SHARK WEEK was watched by 19.4 million people (cume) in all dayparts with 6.3 million people tuning in to the primetime premiere special, DIRTY JOBS: JOBS THAT BITE, which was also the highest rated premiere for the programming event in 2006, earning a 1.7 household rating.
