MOYES: IT IS AN HONOUR

David Moyes

David Moyes has spoken of the 'privileged' position he is in being able to manage an Everton side in the Merseyside derby.

Saturday's short trip across Stanley Park to Anfield will be the 10th derby Moyes' has overseen as Goodison chief.

But he insists that level of familiarity with the fixture does not make it any less of an honour to lead the Blues into the contest.

He told evertonTV: "I am able to enjoy the games because I am privileged to be the manager of Everton and that is something I will always be able to say I have done. Obviously I want to win at Anfield if I can.

"We are all very aware of how important the game is, it is important that we try and get the three points. So I think everybody is aware of it. We have not had a game for a fortnight now, so hopefully we are ready for it.

"We don't forget that there are three points at stake because we want to try and stay as high up the league as we possibly can and push to get amongst the top teams. So it's important we try and get the three points if we can."

Moyes adds new arrival Manuel Fernandes to his squad for the game; the Portuguese international signing a six month loan deal with the Blues from Benfica and filling the gap left by the departure of Simon Davies to Fulham.

The manager said: "We are pleased, we needed some addition if we could. Simon wanted to go back to London so we knew we had to bring somebody in and hopefully we will give Manuel an opportunity and we'll see how he does.

"He is a midfield player who passes the ball well, he'll sit in the middle of the park for us. He is very young which means he may not be quite ready for today, but he will get opportunities and we will see if he is good enough to make him stay here longer."
