Postsecondary institutions have achieved accreditation through meeting the standards of one of two commissions. The Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (CIHE) and the Commission on Technical and Career Institutions (CTCI) have served the postsecondary institutions within the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

At present, a transition is underway which will lead to one commission for degree granting higher education institutions within the Association, namely the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (CIHE). Postsecondary degree granting institutions that have been served by the Commission on Technical and Career Institutions are involved in a migration process that will be complete during the 2008-2009 academic year. Non-degree postsecondary programs will continue to be served by CTCI.

The institutions accredited through the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education are indicated by the designation “CIHE” following the name of each. Those accredited through the Commission on Technical and Career Institutions are indicated by the designation “CTCI” following the name of each institution. For institutions that have completed the transition from CTCI to CIHE, a set of dates in brackets is noted below the institution’s name, representing the set of dates when the institution was accredited through CTCI.

Levels at which each institution offers programs are indicated as follows: A-Associate’s, B-Bachelor’s, M-Master’s, D-Doctor’s, P-First Professional, and ND-Non-degree. The first date indicates the year of initial accreditation by the Association. The second date is the year in which the institution’s accreditation was last reviewed by the relevant commission following an on-site evaluation. The third date is the year for the next scheduled comprehensive evaluation. Probation is indicated by an asterisk preceding the name of the institution. Upon request, additional information will be provided, in keeping with the public disclosure policy of each commission, about the accreditation status of each institution, including for institutions on probation, the reasons for the probationary status and plans to monitor those institutions.
