Buildings

The buildings below are exclusive to Lethbridge.  These are just a few of the interesting buildings you will take notice of when traveling through the City.

Old City Hall.  In the early 1900's municipal administration of Lethbridge was scattered in a number of buildings around the city. The building in this photograph was constructed in 1948 and consisted of two stories however, in the 1970s administration ran out of space again.

New City Hall In August 1998 the old City Hall was demolished to allow construction of the current City Hall in the same location.  City Hall is currently six stories high with approximately 220 workstations.

Public Library The present building was built in 1974.  Since then the library has added many services including: Bookmobile service, DYNIX automated system, a 20,000 ft. extension, public internet access and the millennium garden which was completed in 1999
Helen Schuler Nature Centre.  Nestled in the Oldman River Valley the Nature Centre has been offering visitors a chance to experience nature first-hand since 1982.  To view the year round hours of operation, program schedules, nature programs, exhibits and much more click here.

Lethbridge Post Office  Construction of this post office took place in 1912.  This photo was taken back in 1920.  Remarkably, the building still looks the same over 90 years later.  The post office still occupies this building as well as several Government of Alberta offices.

Alexander Galt Museum Built as a hospital in 1910 by Sir Alexander Galt, founder of Lethbridge, the museum is a Provincial Historic Resource that preserves over 100 years of southern Alberta Heritage.  Frequently changing viewing galleries, tours, exhibits, special events and public programs encourage repeat visitation.  For more info click here.
