Spicoli’s Guide to Global Affairs

The San Francisco Chronicle announced that it is running a week-long series of dispatches by actor Sean Penn, reporting on his visit to Iran to observe the country’s elections in June. Chron editor Phil Bronstein notes that the reports will run in the paper’s Datebook (ie., lifestyle and entertainment) section, for the simple reason that they are more than mere election coverage. So very, very much more:

“He was there during that time, but if you read the series, he wasn’t really covering the elections,” the editor said. “He was experiencing Iran and Tehran during that moment in time.”

Translation: Dude was totally high.
