Youth Aren't Fired Up About Space Anymore

Once a ticket to international fame and fortune, the job of a cosmonaut no longer draws throngs of starry-eyed aspirants eager to follow the trail blazed by Yury Gagarin more than 45 years ago.

The situation has gotten so bad that Energia, the flagship of Russia's manned space exploration program, is urging students to apply for its cosmonaut program even before graduation.
