Art, culture need society’s support: Governor

As many as eight renowned personalities, who have contributed to the development of art and culture in the State, were conferred with various State awards by Governor T N Chaturvedi at a simple function in Bangalore on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Chaturvedi stressed the need for co-operative effort of both civil society and the Government in the development of art and culture. Efforts should also be made to inspire and motivate youth to work in this direction, he added. Educationist Dr H Narasimaih observed that youth are losing interest in their own art and culture due to influence of Western way of life. This trend needs to be checked by introducing lessons on country’s art and culture, he added.
Earlier, Governor presented ‘Kanaka Purandara Award’ to M J Srinivas Iyanger, ‘Dr Gubbi Veeranna Award’ to B R Areshinaguddi, ‘Janapada Sri Award’ to Chittani Ramachandra Hedge, ‘Varnashilpi Venkatappa Award’ to S G Vasudev, ‘Jakanachari Award’ to Ru Kalachar, ‘Santa Shishunala Award’ to Shamala Jagirdhar and ‘Dhana Chintamani’ to Dr Shilaja Udachana.
