Seward, Alaska, January 25, 2007— The Board of Directors for the Seward Chamber of Commerce, Conference and Visitors Bureau, opened the application period for the 80th Annual Mount Marathon Race® earlier this month.

Runners hoping to race in 2007 must submit their completed application by March 31, 2007. Applications may be completed online at www.seward.com. Application fees are $45 for adults and $20 for juniors. Veterans and 2006 finishers have priority, with the remaining slots filled through a lottery system. Lottery results will be announced by April 16, 2007.

The now famous, or infamous, foot race is a climb and descent on Mount Marathon – a mile and a half up and a mile and a half down, complete with cliffs, waterfalls, and wonderful view. Over the years, participation has increased steadily, resulting in new milestones. 54 women finished the first-ever women’s race in 1985, and 2005 heralded the beginning of the “wave start” to accommodate more participants.
