office software - floppy office
a tiny freeware USB-compatible portable office solution!

Floppy Office!

Floppy Office is a collection of small, self contained no-install free office software applications which enable the end use access to every tool, utility and program imaginable for home, business, and student users alike. All of the self-contained, standalone applications require no installation, whatsoever, and for this reason make the perfect companion software package for your USB stick. All one needs to do is to extract all the zip files containing each application to their USB, configure them to their liking, and they are all set.

Jumbo Screenshot:
The applications included in this bundle are: an encryption program, a zip utility, an FTP client, a multiple document interface Rich Text editor, a notepad-style editor, secure file shredder, full POP email client, web server for hosting files via http, a mini tree-style outliner, vector graphics editor, a spreadsheet program compatible with Microsoft Excel, file renaming utility, and a PDF creator. Since these applications are so small, you may be wondering if these are all console applications. The answer is no -- they all have a conventional, intuitive, graphic user interface.

Given the fact that Floppy Office is so small in size, this is definitely a software bundle worth having on your USB, or keeping around for a rainy day. It is the perfect portable office solution for anyone who is on the road a lot, or who finds themselves working on different PCs.

about the applications:

PDF Producer

PDF Producer  is a tiny GUI PDF creation tool which simply creates PDF documents from text files.

KPad  is a small rtf editor which can come in handy to start documents which might later be saved in another format. KPad is a multidocument editor and has all the basic functions of Windows Wordpad.

Spread32  is fully compatible with Microsoft Excel! It is essentially a mini-Excel with all of the basic features that you would expect in a competent spreadsheet program. Run macros, draw objects, generate charts, calculate functions and formulas, its all here. And it reads and writes xls, csv, text, and pxl formats. This version includes the last freeware version...

Ted Notepad

Ted Notepad  is what Windows notepad should be: a small but robust text editor with multilevel undo/redo, cliptexts, case conversion tools, text tools, Unicode compatible, and much more.

100k Zipper

100k Zipper  is exactly what one needs in a basic compression program, it just reads and writes zip files, and does it very well.

NPopUK  is a full featured email client (a far improved version of the brilliant nPOP itself), which as it is, can almost replace MS Outlook Express. It supports authentication, address book, multiple POP accounts and much more!

iFtp  is a small thin ftp client that supports cmod and logging. iFtp is enough for 90% of your file transfer needs.

RenameFiles  is a handy program for renaming multiple files in a single step.

There's More!

You get all of these, plus a tiny web server to host your files via HTTP, a gui frontend for that webserver, a text encryption program, a secure file shredder, a password revealer, and last but not least, a tiny vector editor.

Floppy Office In The Media:

Floppy Office reviewed on Home Computer Magazine

Bangkok Post July 27 2005 - Wanda Sloan

"It is also worth taking an early look in your portable-drive organisation at a nice little program suite from the good folks at Xtort, already known for making small reliable and focused software.

Floppy Office is their USB-drive answer to the bloatful offerings of Microsoft Office and its ilk. Floppy Office offers a thoughtful collection of software that includes some serious surprises that will be useful to some readers. There are a baker's dozen of programs all together, in a 1.38MB download - five minutes or so on a modem. It comes with a simple Readme guide to the collection, but most programs are zipped within the main Zip file, and have their own instructions.

What do you need on a portable drive?

Well, you need a tiny email program to manage, read and send mail, like Npop. You should have both a small editor and a word processor that can write pretty fonts, colours and paragraphs, like Kpad and Ted. You need utilities: a Zip file manager like 100Zipper, a file wiper like dsDel, a file protecting encryption tool like dsCrypt and a little web server, Tinyweb, in case you want to exchange files with someone.

There is a lot more in Floppy Office, not all of whose programs are for everyone of course. But on notable feature is one of the few small, Excel-standard spreadsheet which Xtort folks call Spread32.

There is no need to pack Excel when you have this program, which expands 32,768 pages, each up to 256 columns by 65,536 rows and is able to export to Excel, text, database and web applications - taking up about 1MB of disk space. Of course these programs will all work on your regular desktop or laptop. Floppy Office and a number of other free programs worth a look at are at"
