Dartmouth Electron Microscope Facility

Dartmouth College

A variety of images from the scanning and transmission electron microscopes are available for viewing via the links on this page. The images have been arranged in related series. The links here will take you to thumbnail pages for each series. Click on an individual thumbnail image if you wish to see the higher resolution image, along with a short description of that image. We have tried to provide at least the genus and species for each image, as well as a terse caption describing the specimens. Send comments or requests for new images to Chuck Daghlian or Louisa Howard.

These images are in the public domain. Do with them what you will. If you have questions about the images or the microscopy and specimen preparation used to obtain  images contact Louisa Howard . For questions regarding the research on the specimens, contact the person noted in the caption of the images.
We are also providing some colorized electron microscope images. These images were converted from grey scale to  colorized variations, using imaging and graphics software. The grey scale images originated from this web site. These images were then colorized by the Musem of Science in Trieste, Italy, and used in their multi-media museum exhibition, entitled  Micromondi . This exhibition was shown from October, 2001 through March, 2002. While the grey scale images are in the public domain, please contact Micromondi before using any of these colorized versions.
