Fitzalan Square facelift completed

A £123,000 scheme to clean up Sheffield’s Fitzalan Square has been completed and has been hailed as another step towards improving the city centre environment.

The King Edward VII statue has been cleaned, protected from pigeons and will be floodlit at night. Natural sandstone paving has been used to improve the Square’s drainage and new black benches made of steel were installed. The trees have also been pruned and new lighting installed to bring more light into the Square.

Councillor Harry Harpham, Cabinet Member for Streetscene commented: “The improvements have made Fitzalan Square a much more pleasant and enjoyable public space in the city centre. I’m sure many people working and shopping in this part of the city will take advantage of the pleasant surroundings the Square now has to offer.”

Fitzalan Square is located between the Markets area and the Bus Interchange. As well as the King Edward VII monument, it has many fine buildings surrounding it, including the Post Office - a Grade II* listed building.

The City Council has used funding from Single Regeneration Budget, Section 106 funds and money from the Local Transport Plan is being spent on the revamp.
