Update: Spring storm soaks state, closes Route 101
Heavy wind and torrential rain pounded New Hampshire today, flooding streets, smashing windows and leaving at least 46,500 homes and businesses without power across the state this morning. A landslide forced the closure of part of the state's major east-west route. (Full story)

Beverly Drolet said she's just one volunteer of many at the Pittsfield Clothes Closet. While she manages the nonprofit consignment shop, she relies on other volunteers. Their dedication makes it easy for her.

"People who are volunteers, they have time or they have to make time," she said. "They have a commitment to giving back. You can't be too loose about it. If you say you're going to make baskets, then you have to come in at 2 and make baskets." (Full story)

Belts may save more than lives
New Hampshire is the last state in the nation without a mandatory seat-belt law for adults. When lawmakers passed a seat-belt bill in the House recently, supporters stressed that buckling up would save lives. Amanda Tucker was out getting her nails done as her friends and family members hurriedly assembled refreshments and decorations for her surprise baby shower last Saturday. Melissa Morin, Tucker's best friend since high school, was clipping bibs and onesies to improvised clotheslines.
