ASRC Enrollment
When the U.S. Congress passed the 1971 Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) it created an opportunity for Alaska Natives, with at least 1/4 native blood, born before 1971 to enroll into one (1) of twelve regional Native corporations. Upon enrollment into an Alaskan Native regional corporation stockholders received an average of one hundred (100) shares of stock. A provision of ANCSA was that the stock in the regional corporations could not be publicly traded or sold until 1991.
ANCSA Amendmant
In 1988 congress amended ANCSA, which made it possible for Alaskan Native regional corporations to restrict the trade or sale of its stock. It also gave the corporations, if they chose to, the ability to enroll Alaska Natives born after 1971.
Stock Classes
There are five classes of ASRC stock; Class A, Class B, and following the amendments to ANCSA, in 1989 shareholders approved the issuance of Class C, D and E stock to new enrollees . When ASRC was incorporated in 1972 the original shareholder enrollment was 3,800 - today there are nearly 9,000 shareholders enrolled in ASRC.
