Profuse white and red or purple bell-shaped flowers are produced in spring or summer. Produced in the boat shaped fruits, the seeds were collected and eaten raw or roasted by Aborigines and when crushed, make an appealing coffee-like beverage. Kurrajong is a valuable tree used as stock fodder in times of drought and is adaptable to a range of soils including very dry conditions. It has a wide distribution over areas of NSW and southern Queensland as well as north- eastern Victoria. Kurrajong is a great shade tree that’s frost hardy to around -7°C and adapts to range of climates including tropical zones.
