The Las Vegas Wranglers® defeated the Stockton Thunder on Saturday night in front of 6,844 fans at the Orleans Arena.  Wranglers’ defenseman Aaron Power and forward Derek Edwardson scored for the Wranglers in the win.  Wranglers’ forwards Steve Crampton and Shawn Limpright assisted on both Las Vegas goals. Goalie Mike McKenna made 16 saves to pick up his 27th win of the season. Forward Brendan Hodge scored the only goal of the game for Stockton in the loss.  With the win, Las Vegas wins the 2006-07 Brabham Cup, as the league’s regular season champion. Las Vegas extended their winning streak to 13 games with the victory, one shy of tying the ECHL record of 14. The Wranglers will open the Kelly Cup Playoffs on the road in Phoenix on Tuesday night at 7:00pm (PST).

 

After a scoreless first period, Stockton’s Brendan Hodge scored his ninth goal of the season to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead at 11:20 of the second period.

 

In the third period, Wranglers’ defenseman Aaron Power ripped a slap shot from the left point past Thunder goalie Cam Ellsworth to tie the game 1-1.  Wranglers’ forward Derek Edwardson tallied the game-winning goal on the power play at 12:11 for the final score of 2-1. 

 

Las Vegas will begin the Kelly Cup Playoffs in Phoenix on Tuesday, April 10th and Thursday April 12th with both games starting at 7:00pm (PST) at the U.S. Airways Center. The Wranglers will return home to host the Roadrunners for games three and four on Friday and Saturday night at 7:05pm (PST) at the Orleans Arena with game five on Monday, April 16th if necessary.
