Bail refused in Molseed charge

A 53–year–old Shaw man accused of murdering an 11–year–old girl more than 30 years ago was refused bail by a judge today.

Ronald Castree, of Brandon Crescent, is charged with murdering Lesley Molseed in 1975.

Lesley disappeared from her home in Rochdale and her body was found three days later on moors close to the Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire border.

Tax clerk Stefan Kiszko was convicted of her murder but was freed 16 years later after the court of appeal quashed his conviction.

Last week Castree pleaded not guilty to murdering Lesley but Judge Stephen Gullick delayed a decision on his bail application until today.

This morning, Judge Gullick refused the application and remanded Castree in custody at a short hearing at Bradford Crown Court.

Castree is due to go on trial for the murder of Lesley on October 22 at the same court.
