| Fidjeri is a musical repertoire performed traditionally by male pearl divers of Bahrain. In 1932 the Japanese pearl cultivation industry brought diving to a halt, but the repertoire has been passed down to descendants of the divers who continue to meet and perform the fidjeri. In this excerpt the lead singer and a group of 20 pearl divers are accompanied by clapping, drums, and earthen water jars. Dancing is also sometimes associated with the fidjeri. | |||||||
