Zakharia Paliashvili

Zakharia Paliashvili was born in Kutaisi in 2 August 1871. His older brother Ivan Paliashvili, why became a well-known conductor was the first music teacher of Zakharia. In then he became the first music interpreter of his operas. The family moved to Tbilisi (1887) and Zakharia was singing at the Church chorus and playing organ. Some other young musician - Meliton Balanchivadze, Niko Sulhanishvili, Dimitri Arakishvili were participating in that group.

Z. PaliashviliIn 1885 – 1899 Zakharia Paliashvili studied at Tbilisi Music College – music theory and French-horn classes. Then he proceeded at the Moscow Conservatory at the prominent Russian composer and music teacher S. I. Taneev (1900 – 1903). There he made acquainted with Russian and European musical culture. He created a chorus that performed concerts of Georgian folk songs in Moscow. He published Georgian folk songs' scores and articles in music magazines.

After return to Georgia he pedagogical activities, established Georgian Philharmonic Society. He became a rector and professor of the Tbilisi conservatory.

Zakharia Paliashvili started composing activities in early childhood. In fact he composed mess of 6 parts, lithurgia when he was a college scholar. He composed preludes, sonatas, canons and fugas at the Moscow Conservatory.

His opera, Abesalom and Ethery appeared in 1918. Then Daisi (1923) and Latavra (1928) operas followed it.

Zakharia Paliashvili died in 6 October 1933 and is borrowed in the Tbilisi Opera House garden, Rustavely avenue.
