REGIS PHILBIN TO BE INDUCTED INTO
NAB TELEVISION HALL OF FAME

WASHINGTON, DC - Television personality Regis Philbin, host of Live with Regis and Kelly, will be inducted into the NAB Television Hall of Fame at the NAB2006 Television Luncheon Monday, April 24 in Las Vegas.

"Regis Philbin has been a television icon for four decades. NAB is pleased to recognize him for his significant contributions to broadcasting," said NAB President and CEO David Rehr.

With over 15,000 hours in front of the camera during his 40-year career in broadcasting, Philbin is one of the most popular and prolific on-air personalities in television. Often referred to simply as "Regis," his current show Live with Regis and Kelly originated in 1983 when Philbin created The Morning Show for WABC in his native Manhattan. After quickly becoming the number one show in the market, Kathie Lee Gifford joined him in June 1985; the show was later syndicated nationally as Live with Regis and Kathy Lee. In 2001, the show became Live with Regis and Kelly, when Regis was joined by co-host Kelly Ripa.

Throughout his career, Philbin's signature 'host chat' style of sharing his own observations and opinions and engaging the audience has delighted viewers and raised the ratings of the many programs with which he has been involved. His versatility in hosting all types of programs earned him Daytime Emmy Awards in two separate categories in 2001 for his work on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and Live with Regis. Philbin is also a recipient of Broadcasting & Cable's Lifetime Achievement Award.

A native of New York City, Philbin is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. After serving in the Navy, he was a page at NBC in New York and began his broadcasting career working as a film-delivery man at KCOP-TV in Los Angeles, where he got started as a news and sports writer. He later went on to host a late night talk show in San Diego before returning to Hollywood where he gained national exposure in 1967 for his role on the The Joey Bishop Show.
