Apple denies meddling with Apple TV hacks

We here at Infinite Loop refrained from spreading FUD when "news" appeared that some people's Apple TVs were supposedly reversing the hacks they had applied to the little devices. Some people had theorized that Apple was accessing the hacked Apple TVs through some sort of backdoor while the Apple TV was connected to the Internet. Supposedly, Apple was fixing the mods that people had made, but there were single-digit reports of this happening and it remained very largely unconfirmed.

However, we did think it would be worthwhile to let everyone know that Apple has officially come out and said that it has NOT accessed any Apple TVs to stop the hackfest. Engadget was able to get a rare response out of Apple's PR department on the issue this afternoon, and Apple says they don't know what happened for those few people, but:

it's your box, do with it what you please—but be mindful of voiding that warranty.

This confirms theories that Apple is approaching the whole modding/hacking thing as completely hands-off. They'd probably love to see what else the world can come up with. Maybe we should all be donating towards that streaming utility bounty after all...
