TV Guide Exclusive: Superstars Get in Fast Cars
Various-grade celebrities have already attempted dancing and skating on reality shows, and now a fresh slate of would-be winners will be mashing the gas for an ABC series set to air this summer. A dozen stars have signed on for the Fast Cars & Superstars — Gillette Young Guns Celebrity Race, with the would-be leadfoots including William "Take Her to Warp 7" Shatner, tennis champ Serena Williams and singer Jewel. This week, each celeb is behind the wheel for speed trials at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C., with top NASCAR drivers such as 2006 Nextel Cup champion Jimmie Johnson showing them the ropes.
In Monday's first practice sessions, as half the stars got trial runs in, a clearly rattled Serena Williams was at the bottom of the speed chart — with her best time slower than her vaunted tennis serve. NFL legend John Elway made a very respectable showing for a newcomer, with a bubbly Krista Allen hot on his heels.
The celebrity participants also include skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, seven-time world all-around rodeo champion Ty Murray, reigning WWE champ John Cena, surfer Laird Hamilton, volleyball queen Gabrielle Reece, Super Bowl-winning Steelers coach Bill Cowher and former NBA star John Salley (The Best Damn Sports Show Period). The NASCAR "Young Guns" are Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards, Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne, Jamie McMurray and Ryan Newman.

While I usually make it a rule not to watch reality TV of any kind, not to mention anything even remotely related to NASCAR, I have to admit: I'm intrigued.
I don't know how they assembled a cast this good, but I'd be uber-curious to see a lot of these people get behind the wheel. John Elway? Shatner? Jewel? And scowlin' Bill Cowher? Seriously? That's awesome.

Judging from the long-term success of the Toyota Pro-Celebrity race at the Champ Car GP of Long Beach, I'd say this is a good idea. Most everybody mentioned has raced at the Long Beach race in the past.....but that's got nothing to do with NASCAR (thankfully).

hmmmmm NASCAR usually doesn't appeal to me in the least. (how boring to watch cars go around and and around in circles for hours upon hours). But the fact that Ty Murry is on it (YUMMMMMY!) may have me trying to ignore the fact that egotistical Elway is on it. Living in Denver, you can't ever escape from the jerk! He is ALWAYS forcing his name in to the spotlight, cause he can't stand not being the center of attention!

Krista Allen seems to like reality shows. I didn't like her when she was doing Feast. What a bitch.

Speedy, language like that is not welcome or necessary, and will not be tolerated.
Matt, can I get a second on that, please?

I stand corrected. Apparently language like this is welcome and necessary, and will be tolerated. My mistake.

I am a definite minority in my opinion of Elway, pepper. Most of his 'fans' have never met him. I was not impressed.....
Starchy.... LOL definitely the winner! That had me ROLLING!!

I see nothing wrong with what I said nolan34. If they can say that word on network tv, I can certainly say it here. And she was a bitch on that show.

I was there in the Crowd, and it's going to be great, and I sat behind Elways wife, she was nice, so was Tony Hawk and his wife who sat with her. I had a blast and I know everyone is going to like it. There was a lot of action and competitive sprit. It's starts June 7th at 8pm.
