RFDS & Cricket Australia Partnership

Nathan Bracken

In January 2006, Cricket Australia announced that the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) would become its official charity partner for three years.

This partnership is about more than just raising money for the RFDS.

It is about Australian cricket contributing back into the community from which cricket makes its living.

Without the community, cricket would not exist.

Cricket Australia and RFDS are a perfect fit. Why?

  • Both are national Australian icons
Just like cricket and the baggy green cap, the Royal Flying Doctor Service is truly and uniquely Australian. It is exciting to see two Australian icons join together to work for Australians.
  • Both are a truly national body with offices across Australia
State and territory cricket associations can work closely with the Royal Flying Doctor Service if they desire. Some of our Cricket Australia players have their own charities which they work with, and we want that to continue. The partnership with the RFDS is an over-arching charity for Australian cricket which members and stakeholders are welcome to join.
  • Both share our message of healthy living
The RFDS provide emergency medical help and primary health care to Australians and encourage healthy and active lifestyles. Cricket Australia is committed to making sure that Australians, especially children, are engaged in physical activity and lead healthy lives from their first experience of sport right through to adulthood.
  • Cricket Australia can make a difference to RFDS work
Cricket can help raise awareness of RFDS work and the services it provides for Australians 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Importantly, the RFDS assists people from rural, remote and even metropolitan areas. With approximately 55 per cent of cricket participants coming from regional Australia, it is important we reach and connect with Australians from the outback to the city.
