Nominations are now closed, and a total of 1,634 people are seeking election in the country's 308 ridings. They represent 15 political parties, plus independent candidates and those with no affiliation. Just under a quarter of them are women. In addition to the information found here, you can also check out your riding on the Elections Canada website.

During the 2006 federal election, CBC.ca created 308 discussions -- one for each riding in Canada -- for Canadians to write about what the residents and candidates in their ridings were talking about. Over the course of the campaign, CBC.ca published more than 10,000 reader submissions.

Swing ridings:

In 2004, more than one-third of the ridings were decided by margins of victory of less than 10 per cent of ballots cast. These "swing" ridings will attract a lot of attention this time around.
