Rubens Barrichello has been relegated to the back row of the grid for the Malaysian Grand Prix as a result of an unscheduled engine change on Saturday.
Barrichello was forced into Honda’s spare car after his race car developed a gearbox problem at the start of the first knockout session, and the mechanics did not have time to transfer the engine to the T-car.
The penalty adds insult to injury for the Brazilian, who has endured a miserable weekend and would have started 19th in any event.
David Coulthard's Red Bull RB3 also underwent an engine change, and it was initially assumed this had happened between Saturday morning practice and qualifying.
But it was later clarified that the replacement Renault V8 unit had been fitted before the start of practice, and because DC retired from the Australian GP the change was penalty-free.
The Scot will therefore start from his original grid position of 13th.
