Sundays in the Salon
Sundays just got livelier at WoolWinders: A Knitting Salon. Join us 2-4 PM for special programs, knitalongs, gift ideas/instructions and charity knitting.

We focused this past fall on "The Twelve Weeks of Chrishanukwanzaa", giving our customers time to create lovely gifts for the holidays. Join us this winter as we focus on your favorite knitter, YOU. Don't you deserve it? Enough with the selfless giving already!!! Make some fabulous things for yourself, and learn some new skills along the way! Join us from 2-4 each Sunday. The programs, refreshments, and fun are free of charge!

June 17: STORE CLOSED FOR FATHER’S DAY

June 24: Haiku: A perfect first sweater for a baby or child. Knit side to side in garter stitch, this sweater will make you feel as though you have been knitting for years!

July 1: Lace Edged Vest: Get ready for a lot of lace this season! We will start you off easily with a lovely pattern that is lace edged. Perfect in any season, with either hand-dyed or commercial yarn.

July 8/15: Store Closed for Program

July 22/29: Felted Clogs: One of our most popular programs. Learn all about felting as you make fabulous clogs that will keep your feet toasty warm all fall and winter.

August 5: Lace Anklets: See the trend here? Learn lace on a small project that will take you from the tennis courts to the beach.

August 12/19: Crocheted Angel Dress: We will be out of town, so what better time to crochet? Join Marietta and create an adorable crocheted dress for the littlest angel in your life.

August 26: Self Fringing Ribbon Shawl: This ribbon shawl is a perfect beginner’s project—if you know how to knit and purl we will teach you to increase and decrease. And wait until you see the cool fringe that the shawl makes by itself!

September 2: Reversible Cable Scarf: We begin our 12 weeks of CHRISHANUKWANZAA gifts with our most popular project ever! Pick a stunning yarn and make a gorgeous REVERSIBLE cable scarf. Never cabled? We will teach you.

September 9: Lace Shawl: Ah the intricacies of lace. We figure if you start working on laceweight yarn now you can finish by the holidays. We will show you the mysteries of lace including chart reading.

September 16/23: Absolutely Fabulous Afghan Kit: Several customers have requested a program alleviating their fears about the ABFAB kits. So we will show you how to change your yarns, follow the patterns, and execute the designs. And we will even roll your yarns for you if you purchase the kit with enough lead time.

All programs are free of charge and are held 2-4 PM on Sundays. Refreshments are served. Please work with materials purchased from WoolWinders! No registration needed. Call for more info: 240.632.9276

TAGUA NUT AND BABY CASHMERINO ARRIVE

TAGUA NUT BUTTONS are gorgeous! We are now stocked with 24 colors of this unique accessory. Derived from the TAGUA (IVORY PALM) tree in the Amazon, the fruit is carved and dyed for many uses. You can purchase these buttons knowing that you are supporting the employment of indigenous people and helping to maintain the trees.

And on a less P.C. note, we also have restocks of IVORY, PINK, AQUAMARINE, and BABY BLUE Baby Cashmerino, the ultra soft/machine washable sport weight yarn from Debbie Bliss.

The SUNDAY IN THE SALON is filling fast. Come join us and learn how to knit the HAIKU or SONNET sweater from knitty. You will practice your knitting math and have lots of fun, we promise. Give us a call to reserve a spot from 2-4 on SUNDAY.

LANTERN MOON IS IN THE HOUSE

We had just settled down to knit for a bit when a new UPS Guy walked in (Javier must be on vacation) with four ginormous boxes from LANTERN MOON! Guess Bruce was telling the truth when he said they were fully stocked. So come check out the new needles (straight and circs, including 40” cords!), bags and accessories. We are in love with the ASHLEY bag and the new BIRTHDAY CAKE measuring tapes.

This is a great sweater whether it is your first or fortieth! Come learn all about gauge and knitting side to side. BOOKS, BOOKS AND MORE BOOKS

Well, we can’t fault the book dealers at TNNA!!! They have been quite speedy about their shipping; yesterday we were greeted with two boxes from INTERWEAVE and RANDOM HOUSE. We feel very well stocked in the book department now, thank you very much.

Back in stock the indispensable reference KNITTERS COMPANION. We continue to love this small but mighty spiral that fits so neatly in whatever knitting bag we carry and containes the answers to all sorts of knitting questions. If you don’t have this, pick one up before your vacation! You will thank us later.

And from Random House: BIG GIRL KNITS, MASON DIXON KNITTING, RUNWAY KNITS, YARN GIRLS GUIDE TO KNITS FOR OLDER KIDS, NATURE BABIES, AND INSPIRED CABLE KNITS. The last is our favorite book from the amazing FIONA ELLIS, who will be back at the shop to teach this fall. We have made two sweaters out of this book already, and have all our materials lined up for a third. We have peeked at the other books as well, ok, drooled over RUNWAY KNITS. Come on in, sit at the table, and peruse these beauties. You will be inspired….
