Tonight’s the night!

FOSCON is upon us! I hope you’re planning on being at Holocene tonight, because we’re going to have a hell of a lot of fun. There will be free pizza and some really great presenters. Currently we have lined up: Greg Borenstein, Lennon Day-Reynolds, Giles Bowkett, John Lam, Ola Bini, Ian Dees and Luke Kanies. There will be at least a couple more people chosen on the spot to get up and tell you about their fabulousness (well, something like that — we’re all fabulous around here). If you’re really bold, you could even be among those chosen. Just find one of the organizers (we should be easy to spot) at the event and let us know.

If you’re up for a night of Ruby madness, show up at Holocene at 7:30PM. It’s at 1001 SE Morrison (here in lovely Portland, OR, for those of you not keeping up). You can get there by whatever means suits you, but if you’re at the convention center (OSCON and Ubuntu Live attendees listen up), we’ll be attempting to provide some semblance of a carpool/taxi service (assuming we can rustle up enough drivers). If you choose to give that a shot, show up at the taxi stop outside the convention center on M. L. King Blvd., at 7PM. Otherwise, it’s not a bad walk at all and there’s at least a couple buses that will get you very close in a hurry.

Non-rubyists are more than welcome and we promise not to heckle or preach (too-much, anyway).

PDX.rb presents FOSCON III: Really Radical Ruby

Once again the Portland Ruby Brigade will be hosting an evening of wide ranging talks about Ruby. This year the focus is on people doing strange things with Ruby. Strange, of course, is anything just a bit outside the expected. If you’ve created a new Ruby-based interface for hacking your brand new internet-enabled phone (rPhone anyone?) or composed your latest bit of metaprogramming magic, we’d love to hear about it.

Rather than having a fixed list of presenters, we’re keeping it open-ended and free form. We’ll use the lightning talk idea and give you each a 10 minute (give or take a few) slot to tell us what you can cram in. Make it especially interesting and we might even give you an extra minute or two. Let us know (send email to tlockney+foscon@gmail.com) in advance if you are interested in presenting or show up early on the 24th to sign up for a possible slot.

This will all be taking place on Tuesday, July 24th, 7:30PM at Holocene here in Portland, Oregon. This just happens to be the same week as O’Reilly’s Open Source Convention and the final day of Ubuntu Live. So if you’re in town for either of those or close enough to come join us anyway, you’re more then welcome.

There will be plenty of Ruby fun going on and lots of socializing with other people interested in Ruby. Last year, FOSCON II was overflowing. We’ve found a new venue to fit you all in, so why would you miss it?
