You'll find many valuable bike fit resources on the list below, as well as links to every major fitting system. If you know of links you think should be included, please let us know. Body Measurements made with the FitStik can be plugged into various on-line bike fitting calculators; sites that offer this service free are marked with an @ below. |
| Basic Bike Fitting | The "LeMond Formulas" turn an inseam measurement (which can be done in seconds with the FitStik) into suggested frame size and saddle height. This system, developed by LeMond's coach, Cyril Guimard, is the foundation of just about all modern fitting systems. | |
| Fit Kit Systems | Arguably the best-known bike fitting system in the world. Converts body measurements to setup recommendations. | |
| Serotta Cycles | Certified Bike Fit Technicians taught by Master Bike Fitter Paul Levine offer what is probably the best fitting short of a private coach. This system concentrates on flexibility, strength, and biometrics rather than body measurements. These fittings can be done on your own bike, or a Serotta "Size Cycle". | |
| ErgoFit | Paul's Swift's "ErgoFit" system concentrates on knee (femur/tibia) angle and wedges (Big Meat) under the foot to correct problems and maximize performance. Widely available in the USA. | |
| Accufit | Developed by renowned frame-builder, Bill Boston, the Accufit system may be the most ambitious bike fitting system in years. Computer program(s) convert anatomic measurements to bike fit - and even frame design. Includes directions on how to do anatomic measurements with the FitStik, and can now output suggested position setups using the FitStik's co-ordinate system (also outputs classic setup dimensions). Worth the price! | |
| Bio-Racer | Considered by many to be the premier "measure the body and output a fit" system. Used in hundreds of bike shops in Europe. Relatively small user base in the US, but growing fast. | |
| @Tiemeyer Cycles | From America's cycling Mecca, Tiemeyer Cycles offers an excellent on-line fit calculator. Input leg length, torso and arm length (which you can measure with a FitStik) and it outputs position geometries for nine different frame types from Triathlon to Track. | |
|
Odd name but interesting system converts numerous body measurements to a position claimed to be "millimeter accurate". A strong proponent of Paul Swift's Big Meat wedges and Superfeet insoles as part of the fit: no surprise since the originator has a strong background in ski boot fitting where wedges and insoles are standard fare. | |
| RoadBikeRider.com | "..your "how to" website for riding better and getting more fun & fitness from cycling!" Penned by Ed Pavelka and Fred Matheny, this site is crammed with useful info. An on-line newsletter is available free - subscribe. Dr. Andy Pruitt's new bike fitting book is available here in e-book format. Get it. More on-line publications all the time. | |
| The Colorado Cyclist | The Colorado Cyclist's pages on bike fit. Largely based on the system described by Greg LeMond in his cycling book. One could do much, much, worse... ... | |
| @ Wrench Science | This new site is up and
running, and features an on-line bike fitting computer: you input
measurements, it outputs frame size, overall length (TT + stem), and bar width. Note: The FitStik can be used to make all the needed measurements for this system. |
|
| Ergobike | "Competition Bicycle Size/Proportions Analysis" program by Edward Zimmerman. This web-page converts more detailed body measurements to detailed bike sizing for road. Gives data and compares results for many different manufacturers bikes and parts. A monumental effort. Note 13 July 2003: Users have reported the calculator now crashes after the final entry, and emails go unanswered. | |
| Analytic Cycling | "No-compromise tools for analyzing cycling performance." by Tom Compton. Astonishing set of mathematical tools. | |
| Cycling Resources | Basis Systeme Netzwerk (BSn) resource page. Vast collection of fit-related links, articles, etc. UCI rules too. Edward Zimmerman's "Ergobike" was found here. | |
| How to Fit a Bike | Excellent article by Peter White describes a non-body-measurement system of bike fitting. Highly recommended. | |
| (Note: This link is no longer active - I have requested that they restore it) Klein Direct Fit Philosophy - this article describes in detail Gary's arguments and logic regarding bike fit. Those familiar with the FitStik will see that he measures the same "fit triangle"; the geometric relationship of pedals, handlebars and saddle - albeit from the BB rather than from a position height above the BB. | ||
| The Myth of KOPS | By Keith Bontrager. A controversial article intended to "debunk" the popular "knee over pedal spindle" (KOPS) approach to fore/aft positioning. Point being: there is far from universal agreement about how best to achieve fit. | |
| Harris Cyclery | The inimitable Sheldon "If It Does Not Fit You Must Not Sit" Brown's pages on fit. | |
| Bike Fit | John Gallagher of Seattle combines the Bio-Racer system with his 14 years of experience for his Bike Fit services. | |
| BicycleSource.com | "Give Yourself the Edge! - Cycling Tips, Mountain and Road Bikes!" The Bicycle Source publishes e-zine articles on bike fit and how it relates to performance, comfort, freedom from injury, and more. | |
| Bikesport | Triathlon oriented - Bikesport "How we fit our customers" page, covering Fit Kit, custom frames, setup, etc. | |
| B & J Bicycle Shop | Bicycle Shop heavily committed to fitting provides an online calculator for their own proprietary fitting system. Interesting forms for collecting measurements, plus instructions on how to do body measurements for Fit Kit. This is a fee-based system. | |
| "The Importance of Fitting Rider and Bicycle". Brief comments on fit by Henry James, famous maker of steel bicycle parts and frame-building tools. | ||
| Rivendell Bicycles | Article: "A Comfortable and Efficient Position: One Way to Get It" | |
| Spectrum Bicycles | Master frame builder Tom Kellog includes informative articles on his site including: bicycle geometry for large riders, trail & effects, track bike setup (he's a stone's throw away from Trexlertown), front end wobble, and more. Definitely worth a visit. | |
| R&E Cycles | Rodriguez custom frame fit pages |
