Pedigree

  • A champion middle-distance runner with great tactical speed, Helissio ranks as one of the best runners by his champion sire, Fairy King. He was winner of no fewer than five Group One races, including a five-length victory in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe beating Pilsudski, Swain, Classic Cliche and Shaamit.
  • It is Fairy King’s relationship to such proven jumping influences as the likes of Sadler’s Wells and Perugino that makes Helissio such an exciting opportunity for jumps breeders.
  • Helissio’s own impressive record on softer going should further benefit his offspring in National Hunt racing.
  • Helissio is bred 5x7 to Rough Shod, who is the dam of Special. This strengthens one of the best stallion families in this pedigree. Today, we are increasingly seeing Special and Rough Shod being duplicated in leading horses such as Divine Proportions.
  • Two of Fairy King’s best performers are in fact out of Slewpy mares, among them fellow multiple Group One winner and sire, Falbrav.
  • Despite Helissio’s obvious stamina, on average his offspring are winning at just over a mile. Not only is his pedigree proving a good influence for speed but he also has an impressive ratio of 78% starters to foals.
  • Helisso sired the Australian Champion Helenus from his first southern hemisphere crop. Helenus’s dam is by Java Gold (a grandson of His Majesty), whose dam is by Nijinsky. Replicating this pattern is not difficult. Danehill is a Northern Dancer-line stallion out of a mare by His Majesty.
  • Helissio’s Japanese stakes winner Health Wall is out of a mare by Spectacular Bid, so mares carrying Bold Ruler or Nasrullah in their pedigree look suited.
