Where can I find a map of the Star Wars galaxy?
The most comprehensive map of the Star Wars galaxy to date was included with Star Wars Insider #65. A more stylized map accompanies each of the novels from the New Jedi Order series. Maps have also been included in the Inside the Worlds of Episode I, and Inside the Worlds of Attack of the Clones books from DK.

Galaxy maps have previously been published in Star Wars Gamer Magazine, the Official Star Wars Fact File (not published in the U.S.), the Behind the Magic CD-ROM, and in various roleplaying game books from Wizards of the Coast, including one in the Star Wars Roleplaying Game Revised Core Rulebook.

Why isn't [X] planet located on the map?
With well over 1000 named planets in the Star Wars universe, there simply isn?t enough room to fit them all on a single map. Oftentimes, the authors creating the planets leave details about a planet?s location ambiguous and it isn?t crucial to place the planet on the map at this time. And yes, regrettably, sometimes a planet might be left off the map in error.

Where (and what) is Wild Space?
The galaxy's true frontier, Wild Space is the area once considered part of the Unknown Regions which was opened to exploration and settlement as one of the Emperor's last acts. Grand Admiral Thrawn was charged with taming this wilderness, and he declared it part of the Empire.

On the maps included with the New Jedi Order novels, Wild Space is on the edge of the Rim of the known galaxy and is marked by sparkles.

Does the Star Wars galaxy have a coordinate system to determine the precise location of planets?
There have been several attempts to establish some sort of coordinate system for the Star Wars maps and each system is in agreement that Coruscant is always located at coordinate 0,0,0.

For published maps, a coordinate system is too cumbersome and restrictive to use effectively, especially when developing stylized maps like the one used in the New Jedi Order.

See the galaxy map article in Star Wars Insider #65 to find out more about the genesis of the galaxy maps.

Personally, I use a heading system used with region names to locate planets on a map.

The map included in the Insider is great. I have it hanging above my computer desk.

One small problem, though. (You knew there had to be, right?) Why are there two Onderon's? They are real close to each other, near the Deep Core. Is it a mistake?

why havent we heard from the corporate sector, and what exactly is it?

The Corporate Sector is a free-enterprise fiefdom consisting of tens of thousands of star systems, it is run by a single wealthy and influential company, the Corporate Sector Authority (CSA). It was introduced in the Han Solo Adventures trilogy by Brian Daley.

It was featured recently in the "Emissary of the Void" short story by Gregory Keyes which can be found in Gamer and Insider magazines (in addition to the first parts that were posted on starwars.com).

I was happy to discover that the NJO novels included a galaxy map. It finally gave me an idea and a visual where the "main" planets are located and I got a better understanding of distances and the length time it would take to travel the "distance."

The Insider map is great for me. It most of the planets I'm familiar with from the movies and the novels. Even the ones that are mentioned only once or are the setting for only one novel.

Mistake. The correct location is the one in the Inner Rim, not the Colonies.

Other known errors to the Gamer #65 map:
2 Sacorrias. (Sacorria should be right next to Corellia since they're in the same system.)
Nar Shadda is a moon of Nal Hutta, not its own planet.

Nirauan should also be on the map just outside of Adumar. (I assume Vorzyd was cut from this particular map because of space.)

I'm a huge fan of all Star Wars maps, can't get enough.

I just wanted to add a comment about the most recent issue of Polyhedron. There is an article called "I, Jensaari" about the force users from Suarbi 7/5. What was great is that they included a small map showing where in the galaxy Suarbi is, since it never appeared on any other map.

I'd love to see small inserts like this included with other Star Wars products so we have an idea as to where in the universe the events we're reading about take place.
