It has been a great privilege to serve in the Texas House of Representatives. I believe in good governance, sound economic policy, and opportunities for all to succeed. Over the years, I have sought to make a small impression on this august body by passing laws that I can be proud of, that benefit the people of Texas, that protect our great state for years to come.

Thank you for having the courage to effect change, the vision for a better tomorrow, and the humility to give your life to public service. A prerequisite of good leadership is the ability to allow differing voices to be heard in this democratic body. If we lose touch with our founding principles, then we no longer can represent anyone at all. Leadership extends the varying opinions into unified action for the people of Texas.

I pledge to provide you, fellow Members of the people's House, with that very kind of leadership. I ask for your vote for Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives so that we may bring Texas together again.
