New Books in SFBC November

This went into the mail last week, so it should start showing up in mailboxes by the end of this week (or possibly sooner, especially if you live in central Pennsylvania).

Selections:

Darth Bane Aerie

Alternates:

  • Blindsight by Peter Watts, a brilliant standalone novel of first contact and post-humanity from the acclaimed author of the "Rifters" books
  • Masters of Mars by Al Sarrantonio, an omnibus of his Burroughsian trilogy set on a far-future Mars
  • Schismatrix Plus by Bruce Sterling, the 31st book in the SFBC 50th Anniversary Series is a classic cyberpunk novel collected with some related short stories
  • Hitler Triumphant edited by Peter Tsouras, a collection of "what if?" scenarios by historians
  • Wizard at Large by Jim Butcher, the third SFBC omnibus of the "Dresden Files" series
  • The Ladies of Grace Adieu and Other Stories by Susanna Clarke, the first story collection by the author of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell
  • The Dream Thief by Shana Abe, sequel to The Smoke Thief
  • My Big Fat Supernatural Wedding edited by P.N. Elrod, in which both fantasy and romance writers spin stories of very odd wedding parties
  • Dead End Dating by Kimberly Raye, another one of those supernatural romances, this time on the humorous side

Blindsight Masters of Mars Schismatrix Plus Hitler Triumphant Wizard at Large

Ladies of Grace Adieu Dream Thief My Big Fat Supernatural Wedding Dead End Dating

Other Odd Places:

  • Chronos by Etienne Klein, a non-fiction book about time
  • The Pocket Outdoor Survival Guide by J. Wayne Fears and The Pocket Disaster Survival Guide by Harris J. Andrews, a 2-volume set to help you not get killed in extreme situations
  • Artemis Fowl: The Lost Colony by Eoin Colfer, the latest in the popular series about the evil child faerie James Bond
  • A Series of Unfortunate Events: The End by Lemony Snicket, the finale of the series -- I haven't read it yet myself, but I suspect all does not end well...
  • Legendary Creatures of Myth and Magic by Marianna Mayer & Michael Hague, an original collection for the whole family with new paintings by Hague accompanying a short text by Mayer
  • Seduced by Magic by Cheyenne McCray, a supernatural romance
  • Kiss of Darkness by Heather Graham, another supernatural romance (no, it's not that Heather Graham)
  • Master of Swords by Angela Knight, another another supernatural romance
  • Lord of the Beasts by Susan Krinard, yet another supernatural romance (my apologies, but I do find it hard to tell them all apart)

I belong to the Canadian SFBC. Was going to place my order via the web, which I assume is easier for you folks than processing a paper order. Then how come special prices shown in the monthly brochure aren't on the website? Specifically, "Between Worlds" by Robert Silverberg, item Q043. On the web is $17.99. In the brochure is $8.95. Other special prices from the brochure are replicated on the web, but not the one I want!

SFC? As in, no "B"? Typo, or a slip of the fingers revealing secret plans to expand beyond books into DVDs, figurines, T-shirts, trading cards and all manner of skiffy paraphernalia?

Christine: You might be looking at the wrong site; the Canadian SFBC website is www.sfbc.ca, and Canadian members need to use that one.

Johan: Actually, we already sell all of that stuff now, and the corporate logo for the piece of Bookspan I work for currently (Doubleday Entertainment) says "books.music.movies" as part of the logo. We don't do lots of the other stuff, but it is there.

No, "SFC" is just the internal designation for the Science Fiction Book Club; every club in the company has a three-letter abbreviation that we use contantly (QPB, BOM, SRR, MYG, MIL, and on and on), and I just used the internal one rather than the external one. I'll fix that now.

Christine: I'm sorry; I always hope the easy fix will do the trick, but it didn't in this case.

Yes, I could get into that page and see the incorrect price; thanks for giving me the link. I've passed on the issue to the website people, but I don't know how long it will take them to fix it. (You might want to order that book through the paper order form to make sure you get it at the sale price.)

Will do. Thanks for looking into it.
