Our school "namesakes" are Elisha, John and Charles Scott. The Scott family name was chosen for their tireless efforts in the historical landmark desegregation case, Brown vs. The Board of Education of Topeka.

After 41 years of litigation which twice reached the U.S. Supreme Court, the Topeka Public Schools once again come under a federal court order to desegregate its schools in the summer of 1993. That fall, the district began an intensive process of research, community input and planning to identify effective and appropriate desegregation options for the Topeka community.

In the summer of 1994, the U.S. District Court accepted the district's proposed plan with minor modifications and ordered the implementation of a three year phased plan. The centerpiece of the "Brown Remedy Plan" involved construction and program development for two, new, state-of-the-art elementary magnet schools.
