On the Tube: The Rivermaya Auditions

japsIt starts this Sunday! Rivermaya : Bagong Liwanag (The Audition Specials) is set to launch on Studio 23  -- hot on the heels of the launch of a landmark EP by the same name – as well as much-anticipated auditions for a new member for the band. The show premieres on primetime, on Sunday, September 16th at 9.15 pm and will run for seven episodes, every Sunday till the end of October.

arnelJourney - that San Francisco-based band who gave us the biggest hits of the 80's ("Open Arms", "Don't Stop Believing") - was shopping around for another new singer. Reports have it that they've asked local frontman Arnel Pineda of Zoo Band to join them after seeing videos of him performing note-for-note Journey covers on YouTube. Sounds like a movie plot! Is this life imitating art?

According to Billie Moreno, mother of Andie, and wife of Parokya ni Edgar drummer Dindin Moreno, they might just be a menace to society. Her daughter Andie figured in a bloody escalator accident at SM Megamall while wearing her Crocs last Sunday, and Billie was steamed enough to circulate an e-mail about it - with graphic photos!

pepePepe Smith, Wally Gonzalez, Mike Hanopol - known collectively as the Juan dela Cruz Band (or JDLC to the PinoyRock cognoscenti) were awarded the "Dangal ng Musikang Pilipino Award" at the recently held Awit Awards 2007 last August 8. All we can say is - it's about %$#@* time this seminal 70's band got the ultimate highbrow recognition from the record industry.
