Cryptopsy have managed to hold their own among the hordes of Death Metal bands by carefully and consistently releasing quality LPs. Their initial efforts found them working Montreal, Canada, in search of live gigs and a label. The cut a demo and recorded an LP soon thereafter. From then on out it they would take their time with their albums, releasing them slowly but steadily-a formula which has paid off for them both in terms of album sales and critical acclaim. Their most recent album, Once Was Not, arrived in 2005.

We love Cryptopsy because they've contributed significantly to their genre-when every other Death Metal artist out there is just head banging and jumping around, Cryptopsy are actually delivering excellent music. Sure, they bring the pain a much as anyone, but it's always accompanied by top-notch music. Look no further for the quintessential Cryptospy song than with "Cold Hate, Warm Blood," which prominently features a complex, almost Spanish-like, guitar melody. There's plenty more where that came from, too-their 5 albums are richly worthy of a listen.
