I don't want to say I told you so, but ...

Dallas didn't beat Buffalo Monday night. The Bills lost.

A game ball should be given to Buffalo coach Dick Jauron for bailing out Tony Romo and the Cowboys. Yeah, Romo did a nice job of shaking off a Rex Grossman-like evening, but give me a break. How many times do you give the Cowboys points?

Trying a 54-yard field goal at the end of the first half? Dumb. Throwing with an 8-point lead from the Dallas 11 with six minutes left. Dumber.

Jauron cost his club six points there. And, in the end, that was the difference.

I don't really understand not covering the sidelines on Dallas' last pass, either, because you know that with seven seconds left anything over the middle ends the game. So line up five guys on the sidelines and let nobody out of bounds.

They didn't, and they lost.

Romo, Jauron trading gaffes

If Buffalo wins this game, Dick Jauron can thank his lucky stars. No, better still, thank Tony Romo.

Because Romo's turnovers bailed out Jauron from two questionable -- OK, stupid -- decisions, with the latest that Trent Edwards pass when the Bills were this close to a kill shot.

They didn't need a touchdown. All they needed was another field goal to go up 11 points, with just over six minutes to go.

So what did Jauron do? Throw the ball. Wow.

I'm sorry, I just don't get it. You have a rookie quarterback making his second start. You have an eight-point lead. You're at the Dallas 11. And you're ready to put the dagger in Dallas.

So what do you do? Have Trent Edwards throw. Mind-boggling.

Just as Edwards approached the line of scrimmage I thought there's no way these guys throw here, is there? Of course there was. I thought it was too dangerous.

And it was, with Terence Newman making the interception and coming this close to returning it for a touchdown.

It could've cost Buffalo the game. And it was a risk not worth taking.

Again.

Not a smart move by Jauron

What in the world was Buffalo coach Dick Jauron thinking at the end of the first half Monday night? He gave away three points, and I'm not sure why.

Trust me, if Buffalo loses this game Jauron will be quizzed about why he tried a 54-yard field goal in the last minute of the first half rather than punt the ball away and jam Dallas deep in its own territory.

Let's recap the scene: The Bills are up, 17-7, and have the ball fourth-and-3 at the Dallas 36. There are 41 seconds left. The situation screams for punter Brian Moorman. Instead, Jauron calls on his placekicker, hoping to push the lead to 13.

Why? The risk of failure is too big to try the kick, but Jauron is oblivious. So he tries the field goal. And Rian Lindell misses the kick.

Which means the Cowboys are in business first-and-10 at the 44 with 36 seconds to play. That was plenty of time to move the ball into field-goal position, which the Cowboys did, and make the kick.

Jauron got greedy. He never should have attempted the kick because of what happened. Instead, he should've been happy to go into halftime with a 10-point bulge. Now, he leads by a touchdown despite intercepting Tony Romo four times.

Not good.
