TALLAHASSEE, FL - The Florida State men and Miami women captured the 2005 ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Mike Long Track and Field Complex on the campus of Florida State University. The Seminoles tallied 222.5 points en route to winning their third overall men's outdoor title, while the Miami women notched 142 points to secure their first outdoor title.

Virginia freshman Billie-Jo Grant won the first event of the day with a throw of 174'01" (53.07m) in the women's discus throw. North Carolina freshman Jocelyn White placed second with a toss of 170'10" (52.08m), while North Carolina junior Marjia Kurtovic was third with a distance of 165'09" (50.52m).

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets captured their first-ever title in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 44.26. The team was composed of Dana Rogers, Ashlee Kidd, Andriane Lapsley and Shantrell Moss. Miami finished in second (44.57) and Florida State in third (45.03). The Florida State men also made history when they won their first ever crown in the 4x100 meter relay with a 39.62 finish. Clemson placed second (40.16) and Wake Forest placed third (40.73). Ricky Argro, Kenny O'Neal, Walter Dix and Cedric Nabe ran for the Seminoles.

Duke junior Shannon Rowbury recorded a 4:14.81 victory in the women's 1500 meter run. The win marks the first of its kind for the Blue Devils. North Carolina senior Erin Donohue placed second with a time of 4:20.57, while NC State sophomore Julia Lucas finished in third with a time of 4:21.64.

In the men's 1500 meter run, Florida State sophomore Tom Lancashire posted a winning time of 3:48.59. Virginia sophomore Alex Tatu was next to cross the finish line at 3:49.73 and Florida State senior Ian Hornabrook was third with a time of 3:50.28.

Georgia Tech sophomore Fatmata Fofanah won the women's 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.32. Georgia Tech freshman Shantia Moss placed second with a 13.39 finish, while NC State junior Ebony Foster placed third with a time of 13.46.

Georgia Tech senior Montrell Person successfully defended his title in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 13.89. Maryland freshman Dominic Berger clocked a time of 14.09 to place second, while Clemson junior Roy Cheney finished third with a time of 14.23.

Miami junior Charlette Greggs earned first place honors in the women's 400 meter dash with a time of 52.08. Georgia Tech sophomore Ashlee Kidd (52.29) and Miami sophomore Ginou Etienne (53.58) placed second and third, respectively, to round out the top three in the event.

In men's 400 meter dash action, Florida State freshman Ricardo Chambers placed first with a time of 45.32. Virginia junior Kellen Blassingame was next to cross the line with a 46.02 finish, while Maryland senior Robert Frelow placed third with a time of 47.31.

Florida State senior Dorian Scott set a new ACC championship meet record with a distance of 64-04.00 (19.61m) in the men's shot put. Seminole sophomore Garrett Johnson placed second in the event with a throw of 62'10.75 (19.17m), while Virginia Tech sophomore Sven Hahn was third with a toss of 61-11.50 (18.88m).

The women's 100 meter dash, which was started from the incorrect line, was officially recorded as a 90 meter race. Georgia Tech junior Andriane Lapsley, Miami junior India Ransom and Florida State senior Kimberly Walker placed first, second and third, respectively.

Florida State freshman Walter Dix won the men's 100 meter dash with a league championship meet record time of 10.22. Clemson senior Ron Richards placed second with a time of 10.52, while Florida State sophomore Cedric Nabe was close behind him with a third-place finish of 10.55.

In the women's 800 meter run, North Carolina senior Erin Donahue clocked a 2:09.06 first place finish. Duke senior Lauren Matic finished the race one-hundredth of a second (2:09.07) behind Donahue to place second. North Carolina junior Danielle Rodgers was third with a time of 2:09.38.

Florida State sophomore Tom Lancashire cruised to a 1:48.84 win in the men's 800 meter run. Virginia sophomore Alex Tatu clocked a time of 1:51.02 to place second, while senior McGavock Dunbar recorded a 1:51.07 third place finish.

Miami junior Dominique Darden set a new ACC and conference meet record with her 56.04 finish in the women's 400 meter hurdles race. Clemson senior Silja Ulfarsdottir was next to cross the line with a time of 56.62, while Virginia sophomore Erin Crawford was third with a 57.06 finish.

In the men's 400 meter hurdles, Florida State freshman Elliot Wood became the fourth Seminole to win the event in the last five years with a time of 50.92. Clemson junior Scott Kautz finished in second with a mark of 51.29, while Florida State senior Greg Johnson rounded out the top three with a 51.79 finish.

Miami junior Charlette Greggs won her second event of the day with a 23.06 first place performance in the women's 200 meter dash. A pair of Georgia Tech runners rounded out the top three, as junior Andriane Lapsley placed second (23.47) and sophomore Ashlee Kidd finished third (23.57).

Florida State freshman Walter Dix extended the Seminoles winning streak to three in a row with his 20.41 victory in the men's 200 meter dash. He was followed to the finish line by Clemson senior Ron Richards, who posted a time of 21.06 and Virginia junior Kellen Blassingame who clocked a 21.24 finish.

Georgia Tech junior Chaunte Howard won her third straight conference title in the women's high jump with a height of 6-04.75. She tied her own conference meet record set a year ago. North Carolina junior Sheena Gorgon placed second, having cleared 6-03.25 and Duke sophomore Debra Vento cleared 6-01.50 to place third.

NC State sophomore Julia Lucas placed first in the women's 5000 meter run with a time of 16:23.40. Wake Forest senior Annie Bersagel recorded a time of 16:32.77 to place second, while NC State senior Renee Gunning placed third with a mark of 16:37.88.

Florida State junior Andrew Lemoncello became the first Seminole to record a victory in the men's 5000 meter run with his time of 14:13.42. NC State senior Andy Smith registered a 14:15.21 finish to place second, while Duke junior Nick Schneider finished in third with a time of 14:18.81.

The Clemson women's 4x400 meter relay team of Ulfarsdottir, Randi Hinton, Sierra Hill and Tia Perry won a close race with a time of 3:40.25. Florida State was next to cross the finish line at 3:40.54, while Virginia posted a third place finish with a time of 3:40.81.

Florida State won its second consecutive title in the men's 4x400 meter relay and fifth in the last seven years with a 3:08.58 finish. Greg Johnson, Rafeeq Curry, Wood and Chambers ran for the Seminoles. Clemson clocked a time of 3:11.17 to finish second and Maryland posted a time of 3:11.61 to finish in third.

Virginia Tech junior Brian Mondschein won the men's pole vault competition with height of 17-06.50 (5.35m). Virginia junior David Sullivan placed second with a vault of 17-06.50 (5.35m), while Clemson freshman Mitch Greeley placed third with a mark of 16-06.75 (5.05m).

Clemson senior Gisele Oliveira won her third straight conference crown in the women's triple jump with a leap of 44-08.00 (13.62m), setting a new conference meet record in the process. Miami sophomore Tabia Charles placed second with a jump of 43-04.25 (13.21m), while Florida State junior LaToya Legree finished in third place with a mark of 43-03.25 (13.19m).

Florida State junior Rafeeq Curry garnered first place accolades in the men's triple jump event with a mark of 52-04.75 (15.97m). Seminole senior Willie Johnson recorded a 51-00.00 (15.54m) second place performance, while Duke freshman Jade Ellis rounded out the top three in the event with a jump of 50-08.00 (15.44m).
