2008 Investec Super 14 Competition Rules


IRFB Rules: All matches shall be played according to the laws set down by the International Rugby Board.  An explanation of the ‘Laws of the Game’ can be found at www.irb.com

Half Time: All matches observe a 10-minute half time break.

Points Tabulation: Points are awarded on the following basis.

Win
Draw
Loss
Bonus Point

4 points
2 points
0 points*
1 point for scoring 4 tries or more

 

*1 point for a loss of 7 points or less

Determining Semi Finalists, Finalists and Venues:

• In the event of two or more teams being equal on competition points for any position in the competition table, such position shall be determined on the margin of points scored for and against (points differential).  The team with the highest points differential being considered the leading team in the respective position.


• The top four teams will play off to determine the Finalists:
• Team One (Host Team) v Team Four
• Team Two (Host Team) v Team Three
• The final will be played at the home venue of the highest qualifying team

If scores are level at full time in the Semi Final or Final, 20 minutes extra time (10 minutes each way) will be played.  If scores are still level in the Semi Final, the team who scored the most tries will be declared the winner, or if still equal, the team who finished highest on the table in the round robin competition.  If scores are level in the Final after extra time, teams will be declared joint winners.
