National Selection: The Ukraine held Internal Selection. Ruslana Lyzhicko was decided to represent her homeland in Eurovision 2004. Despite it's a lot of time till ESC, Ruslana has started all preparations already. She doesn't worry, that last year Olexander Ponomariov placed only 14th. Ruslana will sing a song written by herself and titled "Äèê³ òàíö³" (Wild Dances). She will perform her entry in Ukranian but the refrain will be in English. In February 2004 the videoclip on this song will be filmed and sent to EBU The biography. Ruslana Lyzhicko was born in Lvov, The Ukraine. She graduated from Musical Conservatoire getting a diploma of "conductor of symphony orchestra" and her real speciality helps her in making arragements for her songs and in composition. Besides show-business Ruslana also has her own advertising company in her home city Lvov as well as she has 2 studios - audio & video. Also Ruslana is the chief of regional department of tv-channel "Inter" in Lvov. Her husband Alexandr Ksenophontov is her manager and producer, co-author of music and lyrics of her songs. A voice of great range, the excellent technique of performance, “drive” and expression together with unique and original style of music – this is the singer Ruslana. She can be different – romantic or expressive but her songs are always full of optimism. She sings, composes and arranges music, conducts the symphony orchestra, organizes performances and projects, movies and video-clip shooting. The first project was “Wind bells” (1996). A magnificent concert with participation of the rock-group, symphony orchestra and choir, devoted to the 500-th anniversary of the Renaissance, was held in the ancient castle and in the Lviv Opera House. At the time of widespread phonograms, her project raised up the wave of LIVE-sound in Ukraine. The film “Wind bells of Olessky castle” became “The Film of the Year” at the TV-festival “Golden era” (1997). “The Tour about the Castles of Ukraine” (1999) attracted attention to the ancient castles of Ukraine, which are now under threat of being destroyed and need our attention and care. Zolochivsky castle restoration became a true award for Ruslana. “Sunrise” (“Svitanok”). “Sunrise”, both the song and video clip (1998), became the symbol of the singer. It was a discovery of the fairy world of Ukrainian Carpathians, scenes of Ukrainian sunrises. In 1998 Ruslana presented her first album “A Moment of Spring” (“Myt Vesny”). The “Golden Fire-bird - 98” prize was awarded to Ruslana for “Svitanok” in two nominations as the song of the year and as the video-clip of the year. In 1999 www.mp3.com chart Ruslana won the top position twice with her songs “Sunrise” and “Good evening to you”(in the rank of EURO-Pop-Folk). Christmas projects(1996-2003). They included Christmas concerts with the theatre and ballet performances, the musical “The Final Christmas of the 1990s” (Ruslana got “The movie of the year” award for this musical in 1999), the animated cartoon clip “Ballad about the princess” and European unplugged “Christmas with Ruslana”. The climax of the passed millennium proved to be Ruslana’s participation, together with the biggest national TV-channel “Inter”, in the BBC project “Today 2000”. Ancient traditions of Christmas are shown in the “Christmas legends”. The celebration of Christmas in Lviv together with her friends – singers became the subject of the “Christmas legends-2”. 2003 Ruslana'a album “Äèê³ òàíö³” became first platinum disc officially in The Ukraine. During 100 summerdays & in september 100 000 copies were sold out. In Ruslana's opinion, “Äèê³ òàíö³” shows strong energy and “drive” of the mountains. By the way, it's planned to produce new album “Äèê³ òàíö³-2”, which will feature new ethnic material from Bukovina and Zakarpatie not included in 2003 album "Äèê³ òàíö³".
