Anthony D. Spears Dies After Shooting On Vine Street Gregory J. Norwood Charged With Criminal Homicide posted October 20, 2007
The victim was identified as Anthony D. Spears. Gregory J. Norwood is facing charges of criminal homicide and aggravated assault. Around 3:15 p.m., Chattanooga Police were called to a shooting at 2006 Vine. Upon arrival police found a man lying on the porch - an apparent victim of multiple gunshot wounds. Hamilton County EMS responded and transported the victim to Erlanger Medical Center, where he was taken into surgery and initially listed in critical condition. While on the scene police were advised that another man was at Parkridge Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. He said he had been shot on Vine Street. Major Crimes detectives responded, and the initial investigation revealed the two men were arguing over the phone and made threats to each other. Norwood then drove to 2006 Vine St. where the men argued face to face and gunshots were exchanged. He and his sister left the scene and drove to Parkridge Hospital. Anothony Spears died at Erlanger. Police said he had multiple gunshot wounds to his upper and lower torso. Norwood was treated for his injuries. He said the argument broke out after Spears came to Norwood’s mother residence at 2006 Vine. Norwood stated that Spears shot him once in the leg and he fired back one time striking him.
