Ingrid Fliter named 2006 Gilmore Artist January 25 2006
Argentine pianist Ingrid Fliter has received the 2006 Gilmore Artist Award. Over two years, the Gilmore committee listened to artists from around the world in search of a 'truly exceptional' candidate. 'In the end we were unanimously swept away by Ingrid Fliter's astonishing prowess and her overall musicianship,' said the Award's director, Daniel R Gustin.

32-year-old Ingrid Fliter has studied at the Academy 'Incontri col Maestro' in Imola since 1996 with Franco Scala and Boris Petrushansky. In 1998 she was a prizewinner in the Ferruccio Busoni Competition in Bolzano, Italy and in 2000 was awarded the silver medal in the International Frederick Chopin Competition in Warsaw.

She has performed worldwide in such renowned concert venues as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, The Kennedy Center in Washington, The Lincoln Center in New York and the Liszt Conservatory in Budapest. On January 19 she made her US orchestral debut with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra under Donald Runnicles and will perform the Schumann Piano Concerto with the Orchestra of the Nations at the Concertgebouw in March.

Founded in 1989, the Gilmore Award is given every four years to an outstanding pianist of any age or nationality. Candidates are nominated confidentially by professionals within the music community and are assessed by a six-member advisory committee without the candidate's knowledge. $300,000 is granted to the Gilmore recipient in support of musical goals and career development.
