Juneau-Douglas High School sophomore Leah Francis won the inaugural Nike Team Nationals Northwest Region Championship race Saturday at Eagle Island State Park in Boise, Idaho.

Ryan Luiten bagged a pair of goals and assisted on Kyle Little's game-winner with 45 seconds left in regulation to lift the East Thunderbirds to a 4-3 win over Wasilla in the championship game of the Curtis C. Menard II Memorial Tournament on Saturday in Wasilla.

The Class 3A and 4A state volleyball championship matches will be webcast live on the Internet Saturday, thanks to Alaska School Activities Association and AT&T; Alascom. The 3A title match begins at 6 p.m., followed by the 4A championship at 8:15 p.m.
