DIRECTORATE OF AERONAUTICS BACKGROUND HISTORY Directorate of Aeronautics (R&D) is the principle scientific and technical authority under the Director General Research & Development in matters relating to research, design, development of aircraft, aeroengines, accessories, systems and parts. Established in June, 1967, this Directorate coordinates the work of five DRDO laboratories and acts as an interface between the labs and the CCR&D (AMS) at the Headquarters on one hand and with the Defence Services on the other. Apart from this, the five Directorate is responsible for Aeronautics R&D Board and its secretariat. The laboratories coordinated by the Directorate are ADRDE in Agra and ADE, CABS, CEMILAC, DARE and GTRE at Bangalore. AREAS OF WORK The areas under the scope of this Directorate are :
The emphasis is on the technology and systems development in these areas and special thrust is to help achieve greater degree of self-reliance through induction of D&D efforts either directly or through industry. FUNCTIONS
