Geography

Located just 20 kilometres from the United States border, approximately 100 kilometres from the City of Brandon, and 240 kilometres from the capital City of Winnipeg, the Rural Municipality of Turtle Mountain welcomes you! The R.M. is easily accessible by Provincial Trunk Highways 3 and 18, and boasts a population of 1,179 residents. The Rural Municipality of Riverside borders Turtle Mountain to the north. The Town of Killarney serves as the major business and service centre for both municipalities. Turtle Mountain was named because of its proximity to the beautiful Turtle Mountains Provincial Park to the west.

Economic Base

Agriculture is a large part of Turtle Mountain's economy. The Town of Killarney boasts a variety of sales and specialized services that help complement the strong agricultural base of the community. In addition to agriculture, tourism also plays a role in the economy. The municipality attracts as many as 1,500 people each summer to its cottages and campgrounds. Killarney Lake makes up the majority of Killarney's tourism and is the focus of many activities.

Killarney also boasts strong health and community services such as a modern 34-bed facility with 60-bed personal care wing, five doctors, dentistry, chiropractor, optometry, pharmacy, physiotherapist and licensed daycare centre. Killarney has residential property for sale or rent.

While the R.M. of Turtle Mountain has little opportunity for industrial location in itself, the Town of Killarney & District Industrial Development Corporation has sites available for industrial development, along with commercial properties. The majority of the land in the area is Class 3 land, with a cost per cultivated acre a reasonable $500. Pastureland is also available throughout the municipality at various prices.

Major Attractions

Killarney Lake and the nearby Turtle Mountain Provincial Park (just west of the municipality) offer excellent camping and recreational opportunities. Dotted with many lakes and forested areas, Turtle Mountain Provincial Park offers many opportunities to experience native wildlife in its natural habitat!
