Driving in Bigfoot suspect areas.

Brother.

This is an older sighting dating back to October 1st, 1987. Me and my Brother have been fascinated with the Bigfoot sightings in Michigan for years and we were doing our own Research on the subject out of curiosity. On the date mentioned above at approx. 7:08pm we were driving around some suspect areas in Michigans Thumb area. Traveling on Speaker road I noticed a "lump" in a bean field. The color stood out to me since the foliage in the area was dead and brown. It was black in color. I stopped the car and observed it for a minute or two and had decided that it was maybe a burnt out tree stump when to both of our amazement it stood upright and just stood there swaying back and forth. It was about 100 yards off of the road. At one point it seemed to be getting bigger but couldn't really tell because if it was then it was walking in a straight line towards us. About 4 minutes had passed by now and suddenly it turned and headed for a wooded area about 50-60 yards away at an angle going away from us and dissappeared into the woods. It went 50-60 yards in about 20-30 seconds and was walking upright. With the contrast of the tan bean field and it's blackish color we could see very long hair swaying as it walked, even from that distance. We thought Bear but I have never seen a bear walk upright for that long and that fast. The stride was incredible. The next day we went back to the farmhouse that was nearest to where we had sighted it and asked the woman if she allowed hunters on the property.(we found out that it was her and her husbands land) She said that they did not and that her husband did not hunt and was away on some farmer convention. We told her that we were college students and wanted to walk the property to take some pictures for a project. She allowed us to do so and we took several Photos of where we thought it was standing from our perspective from the road and where we thought it entered the woods. From the photos you could see where it was standing and crouched due to the flattened bean plants or the remains of the plant after harvest and also where it had trampled the long grass and brush when it entered the woods. Now the sad part...I Divorced my then Wife and the pictures were destroyed out of spite.(she knew what they had meant to me) Regardless, that is what happened and I'll never forget it as long as I live.

Large, black, long stringy hair, maybe 8-9 feet in height.

At the time of the sighting nearly twenty years ago, the witness was 21 years old and was actively following reports and conducting bigfoot investigations on his own. On a whim, he and his brother set out one evening with the notion that perhaps, since it was the first day of bow season in Michigan, any creatures possibly in the area may be on the move.

Spotting a large black "lumpy" shape in the middle of a harvested bean field, he stopped the car and observed the shape for a moment. As he was thinking that it must be an old tree stump or something of that sort, the shape suddenly stood upright on two legs. As he and his brother watched, it appeared to grow larger as it if were moving toward them, but this could not be determined with any certainty as it was evening and the light was beginning to fade.

After a few minutes the subject turned and began walking toward the wood line 50-60 yards away. With the arm swing, the witness states that he could see long black hair on the arms contrasted against the light brown background of the field, and estimates the length of the arm hair at approximately eight inches. The subject appeared unhurried and walked casually toward the trees, but the witness was struck by how much ground it covered in a relatively short amount of time, due to what he perceived as a very long stride length.

The witness states the he immediately began running through possible explanations and ruled out both bear and hunter right away, based on the upright, bipedal gait, the nearly uniform black color (except for the brown on the chest area), and the obvious long hair hanging from the arms.

The following day they went back and spoke to the woman who owned the farm. She informed them that neither she nor her husband (who was out of town at the time) were hunters, nor did they allow hunting on the property. She did allow the brothers access to the field, however. The ground was cold and dry and they found no obvious tracks, however they did find the area where the subject had been originally, and the old dead vegetation there was matted down. The grass at the edge of the field, where they observed it entering the woods, was dead but tall and they were able to see where it had been trampled at the point where subject passed through.

At the time, the witness states that he did talk about his sighting with Art Cappa, then an active bigfoot researcher in Michigan, however as he didn't have any kind of physical evidence to present, no further investigation was performed. This report was submitted directly to SRI's CoRE database through the Michigan Bigfoot website.

A side note -- this investigator's husband was in the area the day after I spoke with the witness, and actually drove right past the sighting location. He reports that the area is still relatively undeveloped twenty years later, even though many areas in the thumb have seen a large increase in housing and suburban development.

I found this witness to be very personable and straightforward in the re-telling of his sighting, which did not waver in detail at all from the original written report, and it is my feeling that he did witness something which he was unable to explain away as anything other than a bigfoot creature.
