Paolo DeBarbieri (1889-1964)

Genova 1889 - 1962 Trained in Cesare Candi's workshop, Paolo DeBarbieri is now considered one of the best makers of the school of Genova. His style changes greatly during the years, but it is always easy recognisable for his unmistakable making technique, based on the 'continuous' linings (the linigs are not mitred or setted in the central blocks, but pass over - two pieces only per plate instead of six). He made more than 350 instruments, including few violas and cellos. This violin comes from his best period and it is based upon the violin of Niccolò Paganini; his workmanship is fine and inspired, and reveal very good taste and good thechnique. It is necessary to point out how important was this famous 'del Gesù' for every violin maker of Genoa, and the interpretation of DeBarbieri stands up among the others.
