There's nothing more exciting than uncovering a hitherto unknown piece of Ditko history. We thought every one of Ditko's contributions to the early fanzines of the 1960s had been catalogued, but an E-Bay auction in June of this year turned up a letter to the editor of Voice of Comicdom #4 from Steve Ditko. This is an exciting find since this is one of the earliest contributions by Ditko (the issue being published in April 1965). The fanzine itself was a four-page newsletter, measuring at 8.5 x 11", apparently edited by Bob Metz. The content of Ditko's letter is intriguing because it speaks to his first meetings with the creator of the original Blue Beetle, Charlie Nicholas. 2 years after this letter, Ditko would re-create the Blue Beetle for a revival at Charlton Comics in the back of his Captain Atom book. Special thanks to Merlin Haas for sending us a scan of the letter.
