There is No Registration Deadline in Minnesota!

Precinct Caucuses: Tuesday, February 5, 2008, 7 PM

In Minnesota we have a caucus system instead of a primary. This means each supporter must show up at his GOP precinct caucus location at 7 PM on February 5th for a meeting that will last one to two hours. There you can vote for Ron Paul in the Presidential Preference Ballot, but more importantly, vote for Ron Paul delegates to attend the local (state senate district or county) convention.

If you do nothing else for Ron Paul, please show up and vote at your Republican precinct caucus on February 5. This is the first step toward getting national delegates elected for Ron Paul to the national convention, where they will vote for him as the Presidential nominee. Basic information about precinct caucuses may be found via the MN Secretary of State site via this pdf document: http://www.sos.state.mn.us/docs/mnprecinctcaucuses.pdf And the location of your GOP precinct caucus may be found at http://caucusfinder.sos.state.mn.us/ .

We also need 4,000 precinct captains throughout the state of Minnesota. If you know you will be attending your precinct caucus, we need you in this role, even if you don't have much time to spare before February 5. No political experience whatsoever is needed. If you are willing to serve as precinct captain, please contact Minnesota Campaign Coordinator, Marianne Stebbins.

Precinct captains may access a Caucus Handbook here (pdf).

If you do have any experience going to a Republican convention, let Marianne know this. There are additional organizational roles to be filled where you may be helpful.

Add your name as a Ron Paul supporter if you will be attending your precinct caucus. (Please include your full address so we can determine your precinct. This data will go to no one but the MN Coordinator and your precinct captain.) Then we will be able to include you as a candidate for delegate from your precinct caucus. This will also help us to determine if we are reaching our goal of Ron Paul supporters who will be attending caucuses in the state.

Contact Minnesota Campaign Coordinator, Marianne Stebbins, with any questions or to volunteer.

Welcome Aboard Southern Minnesota Field Staff, Paul Dorr

posted on 01/23/2008 at 10:16 am EST

We’re thrilled that Paul Dorr has joined us to help primarily with the southern area of our state.  Paul lives in northern Iowa and worked on the Ron Paul campaign there.  He has also worked as a taxpayer’s advocate in Minnesota, and has many political connections here, so we couldn’t ask for better assistance.

Paul Dorr is available to speak on local radio stations and in your town if you are willing to put together an event on your college campus, in the back room of the pizza joint or the like.  It’s best if we can string these events together over a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.  So get in touch with me if you’re willing to organize such an event so we can coordinate his schedule.  Also get in touch to suggest local radio shows that might be good for interviews and include the contact info for the hosts.

Volunteer Activities this Weekend

posted on 01/18/2008 at 11:36 am EST

A variety to choose from, all involving getting literature out to the masses: this weekend a little smarter, a little more targeted, due to the lateness of the hour and the coldness of the weather:

1. Hitting Pheasant Fest at the Excel in St Paul Friday or Saturday (We’d suggest dropping one “Gunowners for Ron Paul” slim jim at each vendor table. These are the people who talk to other people. We probably won’t be able to hit up the attendees. There’s an admission fee — I don’t know how much — so be prepared for that.)

2. Meeting at the office for lit dropping Sat and Sunday 9:30 AM Because it will be cold, we’ll use driving teams to hit targeted houses only. One person can drive, letting the passenger out to run lit up to the targeted houses, and they can trade off every half hour or so.

3. Running Veterans for Paul lit to Metro area VFWs and American Legions. If you’re a veteran, this is an especially good task. Non-veterans can also do this.

4. Dropping Pro-life literature at conservative (pro-life) churches on Sunday. Obviously, we don’t want these going to liberal churches with non-pro-life members.

5. Phoning from the office to existing supporters in precincts without captains to a) be sure they know to go to the caucus and b) see if they’d like to serve as precinct captain.  If you have free weekend minutes on your cell phone, bring it with, as we only have 2 lines in the office.

Best option for all of the above is to meet at the office (2208
Washington Ave N, Minneapolis) at 9:30 Saturday and Sunday, but if you’d prefer to pick up literature before then, come by the office, and let us know which of the above you’re doing and where so we don’t double up.

Additionally, the Constitution Party is having a dinner Saturday night featuring Larry Pratt, head of Gun Owners of America, as a speaker.  We’ll have an information table there, but we don’t need any more volunteers for that, so attend just for fun if you’d like. It’s too late to RSVP for the dinner, but you can show up just to listen to the speaker for . (5 PM - 6 PM social hour; 6 PM - 6:45 dinner; 6:45
PM - 8:30 speakers. Location: Shakopee VFW, 1201 3rd Ave E)

Three Weeks to Win MN Caucuses!

posted on 01/10/2008 at 2:25 pm EST

The Minnesota caucuses will be held in three and a half weeks on Super Tuesday, February 5. That gives us, essentially, three weeks to gain the additional supporters we need and to ensure that they understand the caucus system.

Many, if not most, of MN Ron Paul supporters have never been to a caucus before, so I’d like to explain the process.

(A short, 3-minute video presentation is available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvPWTHUdYPE)

A Ron Paul nomination relies on national delegates being elected from as many of the states as possible. In Minnesota, 38 of our 41 national delegates are elected from the Congressional District and State conventions. The delegates to those conventions are elected from the county and senate district conventions held in February and March, and - here’s where you come in - the delegates to those conventions are elected from the precinct caucuses.

So we all need to show up at the GOP precinct caucuses at 7 PM on February 5 to elect each other on up to the next level. For this to happen, we must know who all of our supporters are so the precinct captains can tell each of you whom to vote for as delegate out of your caucuses. (If you know someone who is a supporter, be sure they have signed up at www.ronpaul2008.com/join.)

For the next three weekends, we need to get literature out into targeted precincts. (We only need to win half the precincts in half the counties or senate districts, roughly, so we are targeting where we think we’ll be most effective.) We meet at the office at 9:30 AM on Saturdays and Sundays and head out from here. (Check the blog at www.ronpaul2008.com/states/mn for updates.)

We do still need many precinct captains, so if you’re interested, let me know. And if you have any experience with the caucus/convention process, we may be able to use you as a County or Senate District Coordinator. Email me here.

This is crunch time, folks. We fully intend to win Minnesota for Ron Paul, but can only make that happen with your help!

Minneapolis, Minnesota – The Ron Paul 2008 Presidential Campaign Committee is pleased to announce the Grand Opening of its Minnesota campaign office, marking it with an Open House on Thursday, December 6, 4 PM – 7 PM featuring appetizers and beverages at the 2208 Washington Ave N location in Minneapolis, two blocks north of Broadway on the eastern frontage road of I-94.

Current office hours are set from 11 am to 7 pm Monday through Friday, and 10 am to 5 pm on Saturdays, with that schedule to expand as the February 5 caucuses approach.

The official unveiling of a state campaign office is another milestone for the Ron Paul effort in Minnesota, which has already been abuzz with campaign activity for several months with volunteers spreading Paul’s unique vision for the country and identifying supporters throughout the state.

“We are witnessing an honest, spontaneous, grassroots movement like I have never seen.  The freedom cause has caught on like wildfire in Minnesota just as it has around the country,” said Marianne Stebbins, Minnesota Campaign Coordinator for Ron Paul 2008.  “Our campaign office will serve as a headquarters to assist in harnessing this energy.”

Media and curious Minnesotans are invited to join Ron Paul supporters at the December 6 Open House.  Campaign information, lawn signs and bumper stickers will be available for those who wish to exhibit their support for a presidential campaign dedicated to returning the United States to the traditional, constitutional principles of liberty.

Ron Paul wins “Patriot Primary” Straw Poll by a Landslide

The grand opening comes on the heels of a decisive straw poll victory posted by the Ron Paul campaign in Minnesota. On November 28, Ron Paul won a Republican straw poll among those who attended ‘The Patriot Primary’ at the Minnetonka Marriott. Hosted by radio station 1280 AM – The Patriot, attendees watched the CNN/YouTube debate among GOP presidential candidates and cast votes in the post-debate straw poll. Ron Paul captured first place with 48 percent of the votes placed among eight GOP candidates.
