Friday the 13th is the blockbuster 1980 start of the slasher sensation from genre luminary Sean S. Cunningham (producer of Last House on the Left). A group of young counselors have reopened the cabin at Camp Crystal Lake ready to lead some campers, despite knowing there were two murders and a boy named Jason who drowned there. The counselors: Ned (Mark Nelson), Jack (young pre-stardom Kevin Bacon), Bill (Harry Crosby), Marcie (Jeannine Taylor), Alice (Adrienne King), and Brenda (Laurie Bartram), soon find the past coming back to haunt them. A vengeful psycho begins killing them one by one, in nasty ways, including a spear through the neck under the bed, and an axe through the head/face. Alice is the only survivor, and she meets the woman responsible: the mother of the drowned child Jason, schizophrenic (with his spirit), Mrs. Pamela Voorhees (Betsy Palmer). After killing Mrs. Voorhees by decapitating her, Alice floats away in a boat, and all seems quiet, with the police gathering on the shore, but then all the sudden, the hideous body of Jason (sort of an introduction) jumps up and drags her underneath, and everyone thinks she dreamt.moreless

Friday the 13th is neither tense nor frightening (although, to be fair, it is at times creepy and atmospheric, due in part to budgetary limitations that led to a low-key style).
