Pentathlon is a thriller about an East German athlete whose coach is not ready to let him go after he defects to United States. Although he is the crowning jewel of their country and the biggest hope they have for a gold medal, Erich Broger (Dolph Lundgren) has grown wary of the staunch, hard fisted ways of his coach Heinrich M'ller (David Soul) and the politics of communist East Germany. In a daring attempt at a new life, the young athlete defects to the United States, ending up training for the American Olympic team. With things looking up and a budding relationship in the works with girlfriend Julia Davis (Ren'e Coleman), a visit from M'ller quickly turns his exercise regiment into a struggle to fend off his old coach. But with M'ller loyal to the now dying East German philosophies and becoming increasingly more irrational and dangerous, Broger's dreams of competing could very well turn into a battle for survival. Bruce Malmuth directs this gripping look at a young man's turmoil during the polarizing political struggles in the 1980s.moreless
