The Principal is a 1987 drama starring James Belushi in a story about a public school ruled by gang violence and the new principal who decides to clean the place up once and for all. Belushi plays Rick Latimer, an alcoholic high school teacher who hits rock bottom when he assaults his ex-wife's new boyfriend. He causes a lot of damage in a drunken rage, causing the school board to wonder if he's an appropriate teacher at his current location. Rick is moved to Brandel High, a local school with a reputation for its criminal students and resistance to control. Rick finds himself in an impossible position. He's the boss of a school that has run wild for years. Rather than sit back and watch the students destroy themselves, Rick decides it's high time someone put an end to the drug dealing and gang violence that rules the school. Louis Gossett, Jr. plays Jake, the school custodian, who becomes an unlikely ally to Rick on his mission to clean-up the school.
